Tokeneke Newfield drops season opener to Tokeneke, 18-4

The Newfield boys team battled bravely until the very last point, but ultimately lost to Tokeneke 8-3. Newfield varsity veterans Thomas Rosenfeld, Sam Sterman, Nick Morelli and Kenny Lit all posted decisive victories to get Newfield an early lead in the match. However, the Tokeneke squad proved very tough pulling away as the match wore on. But it wasnt without grit and determination from the Newfield squad as Glen Brown, Tyler Zielinski, Liam Gorey, and Richard Gallagher all showed great hustle and fortitude throughout their match. Special kudos to first time matches for Rex Elwell, Kyle Hornick, Paul Hager, and Jack Piazza for their effort and sportsmanship. Job well done.

The Newfield girls fell to Tokeneke on Thursday afternoon. A very nice highlight for the girls team was a victory in 12-under doubles for first-timer Annie Morelli and Christina Molkenthin. Kendra and Kyra Fitzpatrick also played stellar doubles in the 17-under category nearly pulling out a win in a tie-breaker! Other solid efforts were turned in by Anjali Krishnamachar, Samantha Lyman (in her return to the varsity squad!) Allegra Molkenthin, and Finley Wetmore. Also a solid showing by Laura Schwartzman in her first match for Newfield. The experience will definitely come in handy as the season rolls along!
