| Hello Newfield Membership!
After much anticipation and an unprecedented spring, we are excited to open the pool and general club campus on Wednesday, June 17th, coinciding with the beginning of Governor Lamont’s Phase II for CT reopening.
To comply with CT guidelines for social distancing at pool facilities, we will be implementing a reservation system for pool and pool deck area, using the Omnify platform (https://newfield.getomnify.com/#!/schedules/ ). Members will be able to sign up for 2-hour blocks at staggered intervals, once per day. In between member visits, the maintenance staff will be sanitizing the chairs and tables. We hope this will allow members to feel safe entering and leaving the facilities, and while enjoying the pool and deck.
The pool will be divided into set areas: two lanes for lap swimming; two for leisure swimming in lanes for those that prefer clear markers for social distancing; and open space (the equivalent of three lanes) for general leisure swim. Swimmers must bring their own pool equipment such as kick boards and goggles. Families are advised to bring their own pool toys for the kiddie pool as the club will not be providing them this year.
As with the tennis reservation system, families will be able to sign up for their slots 48-hours in advance. Reservations will be available starting at 11:45 on weekdays and 10:00 on weekends, with the pool open until 8pm daily. Limited lockers and bathroom facilities are available but showers are not available at this time.
Please arrive with your mask on, proceed to desk to check-in, and remain masked until you are at your chosen lounge location. Please follow all social distance floor markers and signage throughout the club. Furniture will be placed in groups throughout the club, socially distanced. No reservation is required to come to the property, only to the pool deck and tennis courts.
We are excited to announce the opening of the Newfield snack bar delivered this year by partnership of Oh My Gosh Foods and Piezano’s Pizza!
We are starting with a limited menu and will expand in the coming weeks as we enter phase II opening in CT. A few announcements :
- House accounts – Pre-payment of $50.00 will be required to set up
- Venmo will also be available – see the snack bar team for details
- Hours (for now) – Weekdays from 11-3 and weekends from 11-6pm. We will adjust time depending on demand.
- All day ordering from Piezano’s Pizza https://www.piezanospie.com/ please use discount code ‘Newfield’ to receive 20% off your order. Food will be delivered to you @ Newfield.
They have many great offerings, and I’m sure many families are ready to enjoy a meal cooked for them again. We are currently unable to open the playground, per state guidelines. Our Newfield Kids Club plans have been put on hold until next season, as our provider has decided it was not the season to launch.
We know that many with health restrictions will not be able to enjoy the club this summer. We have approved a special membership category known as “inactive-COVID” which will allow for the suspension of membership for the 2020 season. This option will require the covering the fixed costs for each membership. Please email me directly, and we can make necessary arrangements.
Please know that we are working toward reasonable and safe solutions. The safety and health of our members and our club community is, and always has been, our first priority. We are working hard to keep our website as up to date as possible to keep members informed of all club updates. We will continue to monitor the situation and protocols and adjust accordingly.
**Please be extra cautious in the neighborhood surrounding the club entrance and exit. As you’re likely familiar from your own neighborhoods, the bikes and scooters have ruled the roads since the middle of March. Let’s be good neighbors, and slow down, assume the kids are out!**
Stay well, and I hope to see you Wednesday!
Best,
Carol Donnelly |

Aquatics Update -May18th
in Aquatics, Club UpdatesDear Newfield Members,
We hope that everyone is safe and well. We wanted to send a more specific update on our plans for aquatics this summer and appeal to you for help.
We had all hoped for a pool opening for Memorial Day weekend. As you know, we are at the mercy of the state for if and when our pool can open. At this time, the state has not been explicit in when they will allow pools to open.
Newfield’s aquatics coaches are hopeful and committed to offering practices this summer that adhere to CDC guidelines, that enable social distancing, and that incorporate guidance from USA Swimming. We hope to offer clinic-like practices that support skill development and joyful aquatics experiences. It will be far from business as usual but the spirit of Newfield aquatics programs will remain.
We are also looking at the possibility of a reservation system for families to sign up in advance (only) for use of the pool and/or deck. This will allow for safe social distancing practices.
All of this is dependent on the state’s permission to open. If you are interested in using the pool this summer in a safe way, consider writing letters in support of opening up pools to our local state representatives.
As you know, swimming is a healthy activity for all ages to enjoy, it promotes cardiovascular conditioning and can be one of the only physical activities people of disabilities can engage in. Additionally, swimming is excellent for your mental health and is proven to help ease anxiety and depression – currently a real and sobering issue.
A listing of all state representatives can be found here.
You can also send the Governor’s office a message to share why we need pools reopened.
Additionally, if any of you or your member families have direct, personal relationships with our state representatives or anyone on the Reopen CT Advisory Committee we encourage you to reach out directly to them.
The Fairfield County Swim League Board has decided not to hold Divisional and County Championships in their current form due to the amount of people potentially attending these events and clubs not allowing guests. The League Board has also decided there will not be any water polo competitions or traditional dual meets. Additionally, Newfield will not be participating in virtual meets this summer.
We wish we had better news. The goal at this point is to open the pool if possible and let people safely swim. We appreciate your understanding as we work through this dynamic and ever-changing situation, while keeping the safety of your families at the forefront of all decision-making.
Kind regards,
Katie Cunningham, Newfield Aquatics Chair
